Honors Biology Course Description:
Major course concepts, taught from a biochemical
perspective, include molecular and cellular structure and function,
genetic basis of inheritance and evolution, and plant and animal
reproduction and development. Students are expected to be
self-directed, active class participants who demonstrate hypothesizing,
analyzing, and evaluating skills. Superior analytical skills in
reading comprehension and math are essential (successful completion of
Algebra I prior to this course is highly recommended). An
independent research project involving experimentation and an
accompanying paper is required.
Prerequisites: 8th grade classroom test average of A and teacher
recommendation
Biology 393 Course Description:
This college preparatory course includes
topics in the scientific method, cells, evolution, diversity, basic
genetics and inheritance, ecology and body systems. The course is
designed to involve students in hands-on projects, class
discussions, and laboratory investigations to reinforce course
concepts.
